Mandi See

Worked with Mandi See again this morning, a model who I love to photograph. We went to a railway bridge by the River Severn not too far from her home.

The location under the bridge on the banks of the Severn proved to be a superb place to shoot, especially with Mandi putting her spin on the shoot idea.

The PC is busy post processing the images in the background and with what I’ve seen so far, I’m very happy with the results.

Adobe Photoshop CS6

I’ve been using the Beta version of CS6 since it was available for download and it left me in no doubt that I would buy it once it was officially released. The stepped changed from CS4 to CS6 is quite considerable, as I didn’t upgrade to the CS5 version.

Along with my purchase of Lightroom 4 which again I used the Beta version and then bought as soon as it was released, my method of workflow has changed a certain amount, whether it be for a single image or multiple images.

With these packages, I’m truely enjoying again trying different methods and experimenting with post processing, along with improving the basic techniques to get the best out of my images.

Grass Track Motorcycling

Today I attended a motorcycle grass track racing event, it was quite cold even when the sun wasn’t obscured by the clouds but it was quite a fun event to photograph. The noise, the smell, all added to the atmosphere along with the smell from the burger van…

I’ve not shot any motorised sports events before so my panning technique needs a little work on it, but looking at my photographs I can see in the time that I was there, my technique improved.

I’ve downloaded all my images and deleted the ones I don’t want to keep. Once I’ve coded a new page for my website, processed a number of photographs, I’ll then upload them for display.

Then it will be looking out for the next sports event to photograph!

New Buttons

After a number of hours re-coding parts of my website, I now have my new page buttons working. Its been fun learning new snippets of HTML, CSS and Javascript.

Next, when I’m ready, I’m looking to re-code how my thumbnail images are coded.

Easter Bank Holiday

Well its the Easter Bank Holiday and I’m wondering what to do over the four days, I’m thinking that I want to shoot something but not sure what.

Do I shoot landscapes, go to a museum, find a miscellaneous object or two…

New Backpack

My new backpack arrived today, a Lowepro Vertex 300AW. I must say, its build quality is superb and the padding really cushions the weight of my equipment inside. After spending sometime in planning and setting out its internal structure, I’m already for a number of day trips out and about this year.

Bring on summer!

Buttons, buttons and more buttons….

I’m in the process of tweaking my website and currently I’m looking at the buttons. I’m working on an update, visually subtle, coding quite a change. I didn’t realise just how many buttons I had on my site until I came to design and code the new ones….

My Lens Returned

My principle lens came back from the Canon specialist today, new iris mechanism fitted, calibrated, serviced and cleaned. When I got home tonight I gave it a test and all seems ok, so bring on the weekend, good weather and I fancy a day out!

Sports Photography

This morning I had a little go at sports photography, something I’ve not shot that much of before. I’m happy with the results but I know I can do better, so bring on another event and I’ll be looking to improve.

Not Happy….

A couple of weeks a go I was shooting a number of images for the company I work for when my principle lens failed, not a massive problem as I swapped to another lens and carried on shooting what I needed to.

On arriving home at the end of the day, I checked my lens over and the problem was still there. I emailed a Canon repair specialist detailing everything I could and awaited their reply.

The diagnosis is that the iris mechanism has failed and needs replacing. The cost for replacement, general service and cleaning is £190. The alternative’s, second hand lens is £600+, brand new lens £900; so only one option really.

To be fair, my principle lens has shot 80% of all my images, so the lens has worked hard and owes me nothing, its more than paid for itself! So next month I’ll be packing it off for repair and parting with £190.
